The visionaries behind ‘Ripples’


Ms. Afshan Jabeen:

‘Be the change, you want to see in the world’, is the thought that inspired Ms. Afshan Jabeen to embarked on this journey of learning. She is an RCI registered Clinical Psychologist, Certified SIS Dyslexia Therapist and AMI Montessorian. She has been active in the field of education for over 22 years and in the field of dyslexia since last 19 years. She heads Ripples-Center for Enhanced Learning, a place where she brings new dimensions to the learning.

After graduation, she completed her AMI (Association Montessori International) Montessori Diploma from Hyderabad. She was fortunate to have worked in Taraporewala Montessori House of Children as a Montessori Directress, under the guidance of Ms. Kursheed Taraporewala, a student of Dr. Maria Montessori herself. Ms. Jabeen’s passion for special education inspired her to specialize in the field of dyslexia from Alpha to Omega Learning Center, Chennai and her year-long internship there, gave her valuable insights into dealing with children with learning difficulties. The need for counselling skills to reach out and help students, teachers and parents better, made her pursue one-year counselling course from St. Francis College, Hyderabad. She further upgraded and refined her counselling skills by doing M.Sc Applied Psychology from Annamalai University, Chidambaram

She is a certified ‘Sounds In Syllables’ Academic Language (Dyslexia) Therapist, accredited by International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council and the International Dyslexia Association. She pursued it from Multi-Sensory Language Institute, New Mexico, USA headed by the trainer Ms Sandra Dillon (IDA), in collaboration with its global partner, Maharashtra Dyslexia Association (MDA) Mumbai. She recently became the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) registered Clinical Psychologist from Sweekar Academy of Rehabilitation Sciences, Hyderabad. She is currently pursuing her PhD in education from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad. Her research area of interest is dyslexia.

Ms. Afshan has spoken on various aspects of education for over a decade and a half in various schools, colleges and centers in Hyderabad and other cities as well (Srinagar, Raipur, Bhilai, Shillong, Chennai, Sonipat, Aurangabad, and Mumbai). Till date, she has successfully finished several batches of, one of its kind, dyslexia teacher training programme called ‘Knowledge to Knowing’. Teachers trained under her are fruitfully employed in various schools of Hyderabad and also have their private practices.

She is one of the founder members of ‘Dyslexia Association of Telangana’ (DAT). She is also the force behind the formation of ‘I Read foundation’ a non-profit organization and actively works towards and promotes their cause of 'Learn to Read & Read to Learn'. She had worked as Consultant Psychological Counsellor in Glendale Academy International and Kangaroo Kids Preschool before starting her centre.

Ms. Jabeen strongly believes that we all have inherent potential to be the best and the secret of getting ahead in life is getting started!

Ms. Asra Mubeen:

Ms. Asra Mubeen is a consultant Psychological Counselor, Academic Consultant, Trainer and Dyslexia Therapist. She has been active in the field of education for nearly 19 years. She works in Ripples-Center for Enhanced Learning, a place where she brings new dimensions to learning. She headed Ripples Assessment Unit Team for 8 years.

After graduating from Osmania University; she completed her AMI Montessori Diploma from Hyderabad and worked as a Montessori Directress in Blooming Buds Montessori House of Children for 3 years. She then went on to get trained at Alpha to Omega Learning Center, Chennai to specialize in the field of dyslexia. Her stay there gave her valuable insights into dealing with children with learning difficulties. The need for counseling skills to reach out and help students, teachers and parents better, made her pursue one-year counseling course from St. Francis College, Hyderabad.

Since then, she has gained a repertoire of skills by doing numerous internationally accredited programmes, including Instrumental Enrichment (IE), a programme developed by Prof. Reuven Feuerstein at International Centre for Enhancement of Learning Potential (ICELP), Israel, Brain Gym 101 and 102 a programme developed by Education Kinesiology Foundation, California, USA, Touch for Health I and II a programme developed by International Kinesiology College, Australia and several Learning Strategies from Strategic Instruction Model developed by University of Kansas-Centre for Research on Learning. She is also a certified practitioner of Search and Teach programme and Structure of Intellect (SOI) Cognitive Training Programme.

Ms. Mubeen, is about to become a Certified Academic Language (Dyslexia) Therapist, accredited by the Alliance for Accreditation and Certification of Structured Language Education, Inc to give dyslexia therapy to children and adults diagnosed with Specific Learning Disorders. She is currently pursuing it from Multi-Sensory Language Institute, USA headed by the trainer Ms. Sandra Dillon, in collaboration with its global partner, Maharashtra Dyslexia Association (MDA) Mumbai.

She has spoken on various aspects of education for over a decade in different workshops and educational outreach programmes. She has conducted numerous training workshops as Pearson's certified Master Trainer for Dyslexia Screening Tests (junior and senior), Ravens Coloured progressive Matrices, Standard Progressive Matrices and Cogmed Coach Training.

She is a founder member of ‘I Read Foundation’, a non profit society and actively works with them and passionately promotes their cause of 'Learn to Read & Read to Learn’. She has worked as a Consultant Psychological Counselor and Special Educator in Meridian School, Madhapur for 7 years and as a consultant remedial Instructor at Princess Esin Girl’s High School for 2 years and has used her Montessori, remedial and counseling skills to help children perform better.

Ms. Mubeen has worked as an external member for Policy against Discrimination and Sexual Harassment (PADASH) Committee at Maulana Azad Urdu University. She has conducted many workshops on gender sensitization at school and undergrads level for both boys and girls.
